Cindy Cleary 03

Cindy Cleary, LCSW

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of Colorado, I have served as a therapist in private practice, with a community mental health center, and for expatriates around the world through the Truman Group. I am an integrated trauma therapist and use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems or “parts work” (IFS) and Relational Life Therapy (RLT) as primary modalities.

After serving in the Peace Corps in West Africa, I earned my Master of Social Work degree and worked with the Colorado Outward Bound School to deliver adventure-based therapy courses for survivors of violence, people in addictions recovery, Vietnam Veterans, and youth and adults in transition. I developed and delivered a graduate-level social work course on “Adventure-Based Therapy.”

My husband and our two children lived overseas for ten years, myself working as a school counselor in international schools in Africa and India.  While living abroad, I earned dual certification in Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) and Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), through Bangor University’s Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice in Wales. I also received certification with the London-based Mindfulness in Schools Project (MiSP) to teach their .b curricula for youth, teens and teachers. I offered mindfulness-based courses, classes and workshops for over 700 students, teachers and parents.

My early struggles with family dynamics and an eating disorder placed me on a path of lifelong discovery. I’ve been a practitioner of yoga and meditation for more than three decades. My personal passions also include exploring the wilderness and global cultures, trekking, river rafting, hot springs, and live music.

What people Say

The course and Cindy not only gave me insight into how the mind works, but also gave me tools to use on a regular basis to deal with day to day anxiety and stress. Now I am much more capable of reacting to certain situations in a way that lowers anxiety and helps me find peace. Cindy is extremely knowledgeable, kind, patient and caring, and she helps you learn to navigate and handle the stressors that life can unexpectantly throw at us. I cannot recommend Cindy highly enough, and it is a true joy to learn from her!

Personally, I benefited tremendously by being kinder to myself and by not allowing past mistakes to define who I am in the present. She gave me the tools and the strength to redefine who I am and to be less judgmental and more self-compassionate.
